Dynamite rythym, sparkling flatpicking, and vocals that are right on the money every time set Buddy Dunlap apart as one of the finest up-and- coming bluegrass musicians today. Topping that off with creative, heartfelt songwriting and his natural talent for entertaining completes the package.
No stranger to the stage, Buddy has been performing professionally since he was a kid. He has won mutiple awards for his fine musicianship, including the Fairbuilt guitar he now plays on stage.
Buddy lives in Wardensville, WV with his wife, Liza, and kids, Ben, Will and Sam.
Cody Brown is a truly unique asset to the bluegrass world. His influences stem from all over the map, from just about every genre you can think of, and are meticulously implemented in the bluegrass context using the Three T's of Tone, Timing and Taste. Be prepared for something you haven't heard before when you first listen to this bass playing. Cody lives in Madison, VA, with his wife Anna.
Jack Dunlap is the mandolinist for the trio Bud's Collective, but has also worked along side past and present members of Mountain Heart, Audie Blaylock and Redline, Dailey and Vincent, Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, Frank Solivan and Dirty Kitchen, Blue Highway, Chris Jones and the Night Drivers and Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper, to name a few. Though growing up playing bluegrass music, Jack stretches his instrument into other genres such as jazz, swing, blues, rock, classical, country, Eastern Indian folk music, Celtic, polka and many others. He worked as the apprentice to VA based mandolin legend Danny Knicely through the VA Folklife Program. Knicely and Dunlap recorded the album "Chop, Shred & Split - A Mandolin Player's Apprenticeship" together in 2015. The album went on to win Best Bluegrass Album of the Year at the Washington Area Music Awards (WAMMIES).
Bud's Collective is a powerful group of pickers from the hills of West Virginia. While their music reflects roots firmly planted in Bluegrass tradition, they do not hesitate to add to it in ways all their own. Playing a tasteful mix of front man Buddy Dunlap's original material and popular hits ranging from Stevie Wonder to Alabama and all points in between, Bud's Collective has been making waves in the music scene since the inception of the group in 2012.
These guys have been playing music together informally for over a decade, and their music speaks of the years spent adapting and blending with one another's styles. Only a few months after the band was formed, Bud's Collective won first place in the DC Bluegrass Union Mid-Atlantic Band Competition. They also competed at the SPBGMA International Band Contest, placing 2nd. They host their own concert series called Bluegrass in the Barn which continues to grow into one of the most popular events in the West Virginia Panhandle, peaking at an audience of 400 after just a year and a half. Bud's Collective has recorded a live album and three studio albums, including a Christmas album called Naughty List, which climbed to number 3 on the Airplay Direct charts in 2015. What truly sets them apart from the rest, however, is the energy that fills the spaces in which they play - captivating audiences and leaving them wanting more.
The band is made up of front man Buddy Dunlap, a born entertainer, on guitar, lead and harmony vocals; Cody Brown on bass, lead and harmony vocals; and Jack Dunlap on mandolin, lead and harmony vocals.
